RETURNING THE PASSPORT OF A DECEASED PERSON

‘What to do with a passport when the passport holder has died’

It is important that the passport of a deceased person is cancelled so that it cannot be used fraudulently. In Kenya, you should send or hand in this passport, along with the D1 form and a certified copy of the death certificate to the British High Commission, Nairobi.

When we get the passport we will either:

a) Cancel it so it cannot be it used and dispose of it safely on your behalf, or
b) Cancel it so it cannot be used and return it to you.

Please indicate which option you prefer on the D1 form. If no preference is indicated, the British High Commission will dispose of the passport upon receipt.

If the passport is lost or unavailable, if is your responsibility to advise the British High Commission, Nairobi  (or IPS if you are in the United Kingdom) accordingly. You should do this by sending us a Lost and Stolen (LS01) form and a certified copy of the death certificate.
