Registering with us

The Foreign Office has encouraged British nationals since 2008 to register their details on our web-based system called LOCATE, whether they are resident in or visiting any country abroad. In Kenya we are also now trialling a new pilot SMS based registration service. We think you will like the new system. It is quick and easy to use and in a crisis will provide you with information direct to your mobile phone. We will be piloting this system from September 2011 to see if this system works and can be used in other countries.

While the SMS registration service is being trialled, the LOCATE registration service will remain available so you can use whichever system best suits your personal circumstances. You don’t need to register on both systems, but if you are already registered on LOCATE and would like to try the new SMS service you are very welcome to do so. In a crisis we will still use both systems to communicate with British nationals in Kenya.

We are confident that both our new SMS registration service will add to our ability to provide help in crisis situations and reduce delay and worry in times of stress for family and friends at home. Read our frequently asked questions and find out how we will use your personal data and terms and conditions.

We will use the new Kenya SMS based registration service and LOCATE to assist British nationals during a major crisis In Kenya. Information you provide through your registration is not used for any other purposes.

As our new SMS Registration service is still a pilot service, we would highly value your feedback on what you think of it. Is it good or bad and how can we make it better?
Why not drop us a line by email, phone in or see us in person at the High Commission.
