APPLYING FOR A FIRST UK PASSPORT
From May 2007 onwards the UK Identity and Passport Service began the introduction of interviews for all first time adult passport applicants. This significant change is designed to help stop fraudulent passport applications by improving the integrity and security of British passports. The key benefits of the changes will be to:

As a result of this, the British High Commission in now applying this policy. First time passport applicants aged 16 should plan on having to attend our offices for an interview. We recommend customers submit their applications at least 2 weeks before they acquire their passport to travel. Applicants should not make any travel arrangements until the new passport is received, as the British High Commission cannot be responsible for costs incurred as a result of disrupted travel plans. The interview is a vital role wit in the passport application, ensuring that applicants are the rightful owners of that identity.
As at present, some other passport applicants may also be required to attend interviews at the discretion of the British High Commission on a case by case basis.

Who are the Adult First Time Applicants (AFTAS)?
Those aged 16 or over at time of application, who have never held any type of British passport in their own right.
Applicants who have re-naturalised and have not held a British passport for more than 10 years.~
What is the process of lodging a First time application?
The process is exactly like before.
The only difference is, once a first time application has been lodged, an initial assessment will be made on the application. An interview will be scheduled and the applicant will be notified by mail of the interview date and time.
